West Indies Tour of Bangladesh 2026
Bangladesh vs West Indies – 2nd Test Match Preview 2026
Thursday, 5 November 2026
Toss Analysis
Batting first could be a sensible option if the surface looks firm and offers limited early assistance to fast bowlers. However, the final decision should depend on the actual pitch conditions.
Team News
Bangladesh have plenty to correct after their eight-wicket defeat in the opening Test.
Their first innings showed that the batting group could build a competitive total. Shadman Islam scored 105, while Towhid Hridoy contributed 42.
However, the second innings was a completely different story. Bangladesh were dismissed for just 142, losing their final wickets without putting up sufficient resistance against the West Indies spin attack.
Shadman remains an important player at the top of the order. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das will also need to contribute more consistently if Bangladesh want to challenge the visitors.
Mushfiqur Rahim's fitness is another important selection factor after he missed the first Test with a finger injury. Amite Hasan is also part of the updated squad.
West Indies have every reason to be confident after their performance in the opening Test.
Their bowling attack managed to dismiss Bangladesh twice, with Jomel Warrican and Roston Chase playing decisive roles.
Brandon King also made an excellent contribution with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 81 during the successful chase.
The visitors have named a 15-member squad for the second Test, with additional options including Kemar Roach, Joshua Da Silva, Shamar Springer and Kevin Wickham.
Roston Chase will again be responsible for leading the side, while Jomel Warrican will be one of the most important players in their bowling plans.
Key Matchups
1. Shadman Islam vs Jomel Warrican
This could be one of the most important contests of the match. Shadman scored 105 in the opening Test and demonstrated his ability to bat for long periods.
Warrican, however, dismissed Bangladesh's batters consistently in both innings. His accuracy and control will test Shadman's ability to continue occupying the crease.
2. Najmul Hossain Shanto vs Roston Chase
Shanto will need to take responsibility in the middle order. Chase's off-spin could become particularly effective if the surface starts offering turn.
The contest will largely depend on how well Shanto manages the scoring rate without taking unnecessary risks.
3. Brandon King vs Taskin Ahmed
King's unbeaten 81 in the previous Test makes him an important player for West Indies.
Taskin's pace and ability to extract movement with the new ball could provide Bangladesh with an opportunity to attack him early.
4. Mehidy Hasan Miraz vs West Indies Middle Order
Mehidy is one of Bangladesh's most important all-rounders. His ability to control the middle overs and create pressure will be crucial.
He will need to provide a stronger bowling performance than he managed in the opening Test.
5. Jomel Warrican vs Bangladesh's Middle Order
Warrican's performance in Mirpur was exceptional. Bangladesh will need to find a better approach against his variations and maintain partnerships instead of allowing wickets to fall in clusters.
Strategy Angles
Bangladesh Batting
Bangladesh's batting approach needs to be more disciplined. Their first-innings performance in Mirpur showed that they can build partnerships, but the second innings exposed their vulnerability against quality spin.
The priority should be to avoid unnecessary attacking shots once the spinners settle into their rhythm.
West Indies Batting
Brandon King and John Campbell provided a positive start in the previous chase. Their partnership reduced the pressure on the middle order.
If they can establish another useful opening partnership, West Indies will have a good opportunity to control the match.
West Indies Bowling
The visitors should continue using Warrican and Chase as their primary middle-innings weapons.
Their previous performance demonstrated how effective consistent lines and lengths can be against Bangladesh's batting order.
